Drake University Students Launch Celebrity Doppelganger App

DES MOINES, Iowa-April 15, 2013 – MirrorMe, the celebrity look alike app for the Android market, will launch in the Google Play store on May 15, 2013. The free application was developed and designed by five Drake University students in the school’s Mobile Application Development course this spring.

Tim Urness, Jeff Inman and local start-up designer Amanda Morrow teach the Drake University course where this app started. The app idea came from a Drake faculty member and the team of students were tasked with developing the idea and making the application functional.

“Working on the MirrorMe app has been an amazing experience. I use apps everyday on my phone and before this class, never thought about the work and research that went into it,” said Lindsey Phelps, 21, MirrorMe’s student journalist. “Creating an app that incorporates celebrities definitely presents challenges, but our team is optimistic that this app will catch on and eventually become viral.”

The idea behind the MirrorMe app is focused around users creating celebrity doppelgangers for themselves and for their friends utilizing a social environment. On the application, MirrorMe users can rate other users posts, comment, browse the newsfeed and share doppelgangers on other social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Email.

“Facebook Doppelganger week really sparked the idea for us to do celebrity look alikes. I feel like I run into people all the time who resemble celebrities and the MirrorMe app allows me to share that with my friends.” said Sara Nelson, 21, the student graphic designer for the team.

For more information about the MirrorMe app, visit the MirrorMe website at www.mirrorme.com or connect with MirrorMe on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. To get in touch with members of the team, contact Lindsey Phelps at [email protected].

The members of the MirrorMe team are Byrn Start, 22, Ethan Clevenger, 21, Clayton Brady, 22, Sara Nelson, 22, and Lindsey Phelps, 21. Start, Clevenger and Brady serve as the coders for the team and are responsible for the functionality of the app. Phelps serves as the journalist and researcher for the team and Nelson as the graphic designer.
